<p style="margin:0 0 1rem;line-height:1.72">The plate is fed between powered rolls; a top or side roll presses it into a curve while the driven rolls feed it through. The radius is approached over several passes rather than in one hit, and pre-bending the leading and trailing edges curves the parts of the plate that the rolls cannot otherwise reach &#8211; minimising the flat ends that would have to be re-worked or cut off. Because plate springs back slightly, the operator over-bends a touch and checks the shell against a template before the final pass.</p>
